I wanna start by saying that selfie is blurry as heck. But let’s get into it.
So I graduated a year ago today alhamdulillah. One whole year. 365 days.
When I walked across the stage I took a selfie with the Vice Chancellor. And here’s how that happened. As we were queuing up to go on stage, I was really, really nervous. Like really nervous. And when I was next in line, I was nervous but I think I’d gotten excited at this point, too. As I walked across I heard my family cheer for me and I looked over to them – of course I couldn’t actually see them from that point because there was too many people and it’d take me a good while to find them. A quick glance wasn’t enough to know who was sat where.
When I got to the VC, we shook hands but I was more focused on the part that would come after that and that was the showstopper: the selfie. I asked him ‘can I take a selfie with you?’ not that he necessarily heard me but then I got out my phone, which, if I remember correctly, I already had on Snapchat just to be prepared. I’d given it a lot of thought of how I’d go about it. Because if you take a picture on the normal camera, it flips, doesn’t it? So I thought Snapchat may be better for this one. Before going on stage, I also thought of how I’d have to have my phone unlocked and ready to take the selfie and then just GO. I mean, I didn’t want to be stood there, unlocking my phone, holding everyone up and all that, now. (Okay, yeah I overthink things – I know.)
So yeah, I got out my phone, assumed selfie position…and the crowd goes wild. Lol. Everyone started laughing and cheering again, I heard my family once again and I’d secured the selfie. I had a big fat smile on my face and you know what? I didn’t end up falling down. I’d say that was a success alhamdulillah.
So yeah, there’s a little behind the scenes of my good old selfie at graduation. You know what, I’m glad I did it. I’m only going to ever have one chance to graduate, probably, so why not just get my selfie?
Thank you for reading! Have you graduated? Tell me about your graduation in the comments below, I’d love to know your experience!
