‘Liberation the key
Sought by many
Reached by few
When contradicting thoughts
Overlap in one Mind
The struggle becomes
So difficult Whilst the journey;
The journey becomes
What does this poem mean to you?
To me it talks about mental health. About how someone can have thoughts in their mind that say completely different things; thoughts that don’t necessarily match up. And man do they make it difficult for a person. It talks about how a person wants to be free of their shackles – they don’t want to let their thoughts hold them down and trap them. It talks about how mental health disorders and illnesses can make it so, so difficult for an individual to go about their lives. I feel like people don’t understand how badly they can affect a person. Like, they can literally affect an individual’s ability to do ‘simple’ things in their day-to-day lives, hence the poem explaining ‘the struggle becomes so difficult’. Things that a person may have been able to do easily, perhaps, before they had their mental health disorder, can become so, so difficult. Things that some may not even think twice about doing could be a person’s biggest concern; everyone struggles differently.
Your mental health greatly, massively impacts your ability to do things. To do almost anything. Mental health disorders don’t come in set forms, like ‘oh you have a mental health disorder, that means – ‘ NO. Everyone has their own mental health, in the same way that everyone has their own physical health. Mental health is no lesser than physical health, it matters just as much.
My absolute favourite part of this poem is about the journey becoming a masterpiece. What does that mean to you? To me it talks about that person struggling with their mental health; although their struggle may be difficult, their journey, them coping with their mental health disorder and carrying on through it all is amazing. The journey becoming a Masterpiece is about that person growing and learning methods and techniques to cope with their mental health disorder, to better their mental health and to ultimately overcome the difficulties they face with their mental health. That’s what this poem means to me. And that’s why I love it.
Thank you for reading. I hope you liked this poem and the explanation that followed, too. Mental health is so important and I want to start focusing on it a lot more In Shaa Allah as it is literally a part of every single one of our lives. I want to especially discuss the difficulties we may face with mental health, as I know I’ve struggled a lot with it and hopefully what I’ve learnt/my experience can be beneficial to some of you, too In Shaa Allah.
