Do What You Can’t

It’s 13 minutes past midnight on Thursday morning & I have just watched one of the most inspiring videos on the whole of YouTube. And I need you to feel inspired, too.

Youtubers, bloggers, vloggers – none of them existed until recently & even then, definitely not on the huge scale that they do now. It’s honestly so incredible to see how far bloggers & Youtubers have come in today’s day & age and to see them progressing further & further & further. Now, let me ask you this: do you think that when the biggest bloggers/Youtubers were just starting, everyone would have encouraged them? Do you think they had ANY clue what their futures held? I bet they were constantly told that it was stupid to even think that you could make money from posting stuff on the internet, let alone make a living. Well, look at them now. And take notes.

They are forcing down boundaries & walls & are making real changes – they’re sharing their stories & letting people (especially young people) know that it’s okay to be different, no matter whether you’re from a minority or a majority, you’re equal to the person you’re sat opposite on the train, you’re equal to the person that you’re watching perform on stage, you’re equal to the person that you’re paying at the till, and do you know why? Because we are ALL humans. And that, my friends, is our race (the human race), so how can any of us be superior?

We each have the same number of hours in every day, we each have the potential to live our dreams & I promise you I’m not just saying that! I want you to think of something that you really, really want to do but you think just isn’t possible or is something you’ll never be able to do. Now I want you to think long & hard, is it really as difficult as you think? Or if you put in the hard work & dedicate your time & effort, can you actually make your dreams come true? The answer is yes. The answer is always yes. You have to believe in yourself; sometimes you’re the only person that can see sense in something others may perceive as mad or as stupid, but they don’t see what you see. It’s not them that can decide whether it’s stupid or not, because it’s you that’s putting in the work, it’s you that’s making the sacrifices & it’s you that gets to decide whether it is worth it.

I’m a firm believer in going on new & different experiences & challenging yourself to do new things as everything you do will teach you something & will contribute toward your growth. But, in this video, Casey Neistat took this to a whole new bloody level. This video is living proof that when you put your mind to something, no matter how hard you may think it is, or no matter how unclear the outcome will be, you can absolutely 10000% do it. And you should.

I’m genuinely shaking, I feel as if this video really, really speaks to me & instead of just reminding me that the sky is the limit, it’s shown me that there’s no such thing as a limit – in fact, the inspiration I have taken from it is so much more than that. I can’t put in to words how much this video touched me & inspired me, I feel like it’s opened up something inside me that has been waiting. I feel like those years of my life where I was always told that I couldn’t do something or sometimes wasn’t even told that I couldn’t, I just believed that I couldn’t have been put into perspective. The reason why I was told that I couldn’t, and the reason why you were told that you couldn’t, is because that would go on to be one of the only ways to motivate me and to motivate you that we 100% can. And we can prove it.

You can prove to all those people that told you that you “can’t”, that you sure as heck can. – Click To Tweet

So Casey, for making this video, I wanted to say thank you as you’ve honestly made me feel so incredibly inspired right now that I want this level of inspiration to stay with me forever & ever.

BE the change you want to be, DO whatever you want to – everything & everyone started from somewhere, THINK of the people that made history & REMEMBER that they had the same resources as you, the most important being time, faith & belief. If you believe in yourself & believe that every single thing you do is happening the way that it’s supposed to, then you also inspire others to be true to themselves & be the best versions of themselves that they can be, as they understand everything that is going on in their lives, good and bad, is happening for a reason & every single thing that they are going through is teaching them something valuable.

This week has been such an inspiring week, from the women’s success stories talk on Monday at university, to the uplifting #GRLPOWR Twitter chat on Tuesday & this little video I watched on Wednesday, as well as the amazing inspiration & encouragement that has come about through it being International Women’s Day. It’s proof that you need to surround yourself with people that only encourage you to do better & to be the best that you can be, but remember that even then you have to be your own biggest fan & your number 1 supporter, because no matter what anyone else says, you will never know what you’re capable of unless you allow yourself to try.

In the words of Casey Neistat: Do what you can’t. And do it now.

Thank you for reading! I hope you leave this post feeling a little inspired & with the belief that you are capable of doing whatever you want to – but remember that you’re only capable of doing incredible things if you tell yourself you can, so keep reminding yourself and you will soon realise just how true it is.

What’s your biggest goal? And when are you going to start working towards it?

  2. Oh my goodness that first quote about “we are all humans” that right there has been the most in-genius quote I’m come across to date. It’s so crazy to think that people do find themselves more superior because of gender, race, background, ethnicity but what they’re truly lacking is the truth of the matter that we are all the same no matter what. Wow that just really touched me, thank you for sharing this inspiring post. Spread the positivism!

    xo, JJ

  12. Love this post Humaira, and as someone who constantly pushes the limit, there’s only I won’t, not I can’t in life. We all have an option, whether we do something or not, and the future is in our hands. The future is when we can look back and say there isn’t ‘I can’t’, just an ‘I did’.
