I’m so excited to share my latest series with you. This series is, essentially, what 1 Week Mary is supposed to be all about, so, without further ado *DRUMROLL*…

My latest series is going to be called 1 Week Mary’s “1 Weekers”. What this means is that every other week I’m going to be setting myself a challenge for a week, whether it be a week as a vegetarian, a week to make ยฃ100 or a week as a stylist, I’m willing to do almost anything for a week, all in the spirit of writing about it.

So, as I absolutely love reading, I thought it fitting that the first 1 Weeker would be to read a book a day for a week.

All of the following books are best sellers and can be found on Amazon, just click the image to be directed to the page.

BELONGING by Sameem Ali

Belonging is a true story, which is guaranteed to pull at your heart strings. Sameem, at 7 years old, is taken out of her care home, away from the comforts of Auntie Peggy and returns to her family home, only to find that it’s nothing like she thought it would be. And that only gets worst once she’s forced to marry at 13 years old. She often thinks about running away and when she comes home one day to see that her 3 year old son, Azmier, has bruises on his back, it’s the final straw – she’s going to do it. A heartbreaking story; there are bits that will make you bawl your eyes out and there are bits that will make you feel so, genuinely happy. This whole book made me cry and really touched my heart. A must read for everyone out there – just check out the reviews if you don’t believe me.

AS THEY SLEPT by Andy Leeks

As they slept

Go inside the mind of a commuter and just see how relatable each commuter’s thoughts are. Admittedly, not all of them, however enough to make you realise that we’re all in the same boat – or train, should I say. Andy Leeks got into a Facebook debate and decided to prove that instead of sleeping, commuters have so many things they could be doing, like writing a best seller, for example, and that’s exactly what he did.

See how they run

A fairly new book and admittedly, this one took the longest to read, but it was so worth it. See How They Run is an absolute must read. I don’t want to give too much away, but the ending of almost every chapter sent chills down my spine. So many revelations came through, it just goes to show how far Harry and Alice would go to protect their family, especially their newborn daughter, Evie. It’s the first thriller I’ve read, and it 100% exceeded my expectations. It’ll make you cry, it’ll make you look over your shoulder just one more time, and by the end it’ll have made you feel amazing. If it seems like I’m exaggerating, just check it out for yourself! And once you have done, please, please let me know what you thought of it.

Behind closed doors

Unexpected twists and turns await you – I had chills. Behind Closed Doors is the perfect example for the phrase “You don’t know what happens behind closed doors”. On the outside, to their friends and family, it looks like Jack and Grace have a perfect life together. The perfect marriage, perfect house, everything’s just perfect. But that’s simply not true. In fact, perfect’s the opposite of what they have. If only their friends knew how much Grace suffered – or do they? You’ll have to read it to find out. Without giving too much away, the last few lines sent chills down my spine and at the same time, made me want to bawl my eyes out. Just heartbreaking.

SEE YOU SOON by NC Marshall

See you soon

Let me just warn you, everything is not as it seems. Just as you think you know where the story is headed, I’ll tell you now – you don’t. Well, I didn’t. I particularly liked the fact that the narrator tended to change every few chapters so we got an insight into the minds of each of the protagonists. It didn’t take too long to read and I’d finished it in a few hours.

NC Marshall carries out the mystery right to the very end – can you solve it?

Time to say goodbye.jpg

Time To Say Goodbye tells the tale of a father’s pure love for his six year-old daughter. With twists and turns, William had always thought he’d known what was best for his daughter, Ella, but now he’s just not sure. And the death of his father doesn’t help either. With a choice to make and his deadline fast approaching, what should he do?

If I had to recommend only 2 of these books, although I enjoyed reading them all, I’d definitely have to say Sameem Ali’s Belonging and Tom Bale’s See How They Run. I cannot recommend them enough – they’re two of the best books I’ve read. If you’ve read them or are planning to, be sure to let me know your thoughts.

Also, if you have any ideas for challenges I could do for a week, I’m only an email/tweet/commentย away!
